Casa da Pipa – The Home at the Pine Groove
At Prazeres, in a 100 m distance to the water channel Levada Nova, Casa da Pipa is situated at a Country Lane. The resinous scent of the neighbouring pine grooves drifts across.
Casa da Pipa is a tastefully furnished new building (2004). On it's ground floor there is a large living room with kitchenette and dinette. The kitchenette consists of a gas stove (four flames) with an electric oven, a sink and a fridge. The living room has an extension of 5 x 4 m. It is furnished with the dining table with four chairs and a corner unit with a sofabed. On a media desk are a tv (antenna towards Hispasat, receiving a few English programmes), a dvd-cd-player, and a cassette recorder.
Behind the house is a large fenced in court yard to take a sun bath, relax or play. Here you have a barbecue, garden furniture and a washing machine. On the first floor you have a small bathroom with a shower and two bedrooms, both with French divanes (1.20 x 1.90 m resp. 1.40 x 1.90 m). Every bedroom contains a tall wardrobe. Before one of the bedrooms a balcony faces in the east the marvellous mountains of Madeira. Both of the bedrooms facing the south let you see the ocean sparkling on the horizonline.
A cot and a changing table serve the little ones. For cool nights or early mornings an electric heater stands by. In the living room you find a closed fire place (for wood) to heat room and house whenever you like.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
Prazeres
Prazeres is situated on the steep coast in the west part of Madeira. Here the island is densely populated. The inhabitants live slowly, no need to hurry. Agriculture still plays the main part. Fruit trees bear well in Prazeres: lemons, apples, kiwis, oranges. Within the tranquil village there are a few steps to go from the church to the small zoological gardens (run by the pastor) and the tea house where women from the paroquia sell home made products – cidre, jams, teas, infusions, fresh fruits and vegetables. On sundays a small market hall opens. Moreover you find in Prazeres a grocery and (seven minutes to drive) in Calheta Beach a big supermarket. Restaurants are in the village.
Walking
Casa da Pipa is the ideal home for rambling holiday makers, Only 100 m the Levada Nova passes by, one of the longest and most important water channels of the island. To the west and the east direction you can stroll for hours, passing through chestnut and eucalypso forests or crossing camps and meadows. In the quart of an hour you climb up by car to the island's plateau „Paul da Serra“. At the turn-off Rabaçal – a charming rambling location – wants to be discovered.
Driving from the airport is mostly one houre, from the home to reach out Funchal is within 50 minutes.
